Hi There,

I'm taking a chance on posting my story here. I suppose we all at one time in our life have a need. Here I go: Well I am a divorced mother of 7 years. Since I moved here to Arizona in 2006 it's been quite an experience. I guess I hoped I would be able to afford the cost of living here better than California. I was at my job in California for almost 3 years. Things were starting to get tough there at the time. It has been hard getting a stable job so I opted to work for temp agencies which never lead me to anything stable. So my savings has been depleted. Well I have went back to caregiving (caring for sick and elderly in thier homes) through an agency. Well I have been with the company for a year now.The work is rewarding but the pay is not very good at $9.00hr. Well I have stuck to this job and I'm working on getting my caregiver certificate next month ,as long as my finances allow it. That will help me work at the assisted living home in October, I also am hoping to start subcontracting for a cleaning business this month but I know it will take time to start. My car is ready to break down and I'm living paycheck to paycheck. I need my cars catalytic converter and timing belt replaced which is gonna run me anywhere from $1,200.00 to $1,600.00. I live on my own and at this point its either I pay my mortgage or if my car breaks down, I will not be able to pursue my cleaning and a new job coming in Oct that was offered to me. I know that I am not the type to throw in the towel. I had 3 hours of work this week ,14 hours last week , and the hours keep getting less, due to my patients/clients passing away or being admitted into a nursing home. So now I'm sticking close to home just to save on gas. I have a killer toothache and I'm diabetic with no medical or dental insurance. I'm trying to move forward the best that I can. My children are grown adults and live in California and I have not been able to see them in over a year. I guess we all are in the same situation. I hope to be able to get through the next 2 months without wondering how I'm going to pay my utility bills and the stress of thinking if my car will break down. I don't know what else to do. I'm scared for my car and myself. My family has been trying to help but they can only help to a point. I modified my mortgage which was a blessing but the job situation doesn't help me at all. And I do pay it. I will not give up I just need my car fixed and my teeth,lol....not to mention I need to see a doctor for a check up. Well there's my story. Have a good day.......God Bless, Rachel

Hi, I'm Debbie.  I'm 52 and I took an early retirement in 2006 to be caregiver for my parents. My dad passed in 2007, so now it's just me and my widowed mom.  Both of us draw very limited income. Mom has Medicare, parts A, B, & D, as well as a medical supplement, but no Medicaid and no dental insurance.

Mom has extensive health issues and is currently in a Rehabilitation facility recieving PT because of yet another stroke.  She will be there for the next 3 weeks.  She is also an insulin-dependent diabetic (which is out of control)and she has just been diagnosed with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.  Among these and several other problems, she is also dealing with severe dental issues. Which is why I am writing this today.  Last year, she had a gum infection and two teeth, which were used to stabilize her bridge, had become so badly decayed that they had to remove the bridge and pull the two supporting teeth...leaving a large gap because she was not able to afford to have another bridge to replace that one. Now, her teeth have begun to break off and fall out at the rate of 5 teeth in as little as 4 days!  Her 2 front teeth are chipping away and about to fall out, as well. She suffers from a severely dry mouth, partly from the diabetes and partly caused by some of her medications, both of which only aggravate the dental problems.  She has been told that due to her medical health, she would have to be hospitalized and be completely monitored in order to have any dental work done.  My guess is, they will probably have to surgically remove what little teeth she may have left and make her some dentures.  To have all this done will be extremely costly and neither her nor I have the financial ability to get the help she needs. We live in Mesquite, TX (Dallas County).  Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Last year I was renovating a stream. I made steps down to it and misplaced a rock. When I stepped on it, I was catapaulted about 10 feet into the stream. It broke off my bottom teeth. Since then my job has been sold to a foreign country so I was able to go to school. I took distance learning on my computer so noone would see me. I have been a virtual hermit since then. I’ve lived with my fiance for the past 10 years. Recently, he has been diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer. This is his last week of chemotherapy, then in 4-5 weeks he has to have a chest resection. I want to be there with him, have to be there with him, but look so horrible that the worry of him plus my humiliation of teeth like this is more then I think I can handle. My school funding was cut, I have$320.00 left on on my unemployment. I have 10 years of college under my belt but am virtually unemployable. I worked for Sony Corp. but could not afford to keep up their insurance. I even called welfare and they said that I make too monuch money per weekk to get a medical card ($145.00) weekly. I am desperate, and do not know what to do but must do it now. If you know of anyway….I would pay back every cent. Plus I am on a liquid diet because I canot eat solid food. But at least I do not have cancer which must come first in this household right now. Thank you for your time.

Need dental work, no insurance

I am in need of dental work, and have no insurance.  I have 3 broken front teeth and one back molar that is loose and needing work.  There is no possible way to do anything about it financially, I have been living with this for almost 2 years, but it constantly bothers my self esteem, and my molar tooth makes it difficult to eat and sleep.  I would appreciate any suggestions or help if anyone could do anything.
